EDWARDSVILLE, IL (February 19, 2021) Ultimate Gaming Championship (UGC), through its scholastic arm UGC EDU, announced the launch of a series of free invitational esports tournaments with the Racine Unified School District out of Wisconsin. The five League of Legends tournaments will take place over ten weeks beginning in March and will be sponsored by SHI and MSI.

“They (UGC) have been fantastic to work with. Very responsive to everything, wanting to learn what our space is about and not coming in telling us what the space is, but saying, ‘How we can make this better for you?'”, says James O’Hagan, the Director of Digital & Virtual Learning for the Racine Unified School District and Founder of The Academy of Esports.

Each two week invitational will bring together 16 schools from around Wisconsin and the midwest. Schools can compete for prizes in each of the five invitationals, which increase in value as the event progresses. Throughout the whole competition schools will accumulate points for winning or placing in each tournament. The overall leader in points at the end of the 10 week event will be crowned champion and awarded the tournament cup.

“I am thrilled to be working with James and his organization as we continue to refine our product offering to educators. He has taught me that things need to be built dynamically to satisfy needs within scholastic ecosystems, state by state.”, says Matt Jackson CEO and founder of UGC, “This is a space that can define a new structure in esports while serving the same missional elements that traditional sports do. The educators state-by-state know what they need. I’m just glad UGC can support them.”
